Local authorities set up potable water network in Karbala |
|
KARBALA - Iraqi authorities started the installation of a potable water network in the outlying suburbs of Karbala on Wednesday, a local official said.
Many Iraqi towns and districts lack basic infrastructures, or their basic installation have worn away after years of sanctions and violence.
"The technical and engineering sectors in al-Hurr's Water Department have started supplying a network of water pipes for the town's districts," Falahih Hassan, the reconstruction official for Karbala's provincial council, told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI).
The project cost is estimated at a total of 654,971 million Iraq dinars (1$=118 ID) as part of fund allocated by the government for regions.
"The project will provide a network of pipes to span 47 km and is expected to take six month until completion," the local official added.
Karbala, the capital city of Karbala province, lies 110 km south of Baghdad.
