Where Does Oman Stand...
United Securities - 05 Jan 2009

United Securities expects a better performance for the Omani corporate compared to the GCC peers, and estimates that real GDP growth will have raised to 6.4% in 2008, owing to stronger export volumes on the back of slightly higher crude oil output. The company assumes that the effects of the current series of enhanced oil recovery projects will begin to be felt from early 2009. Omani banks are still strong, well capitalized, and are not exposed to the crisis affected instruments or institutions.

Obama's Silence
On managing the US economic crisis, there appears to be "one president at a time" - namely Obama; on other issues, such as Israel's bombardment of Gaza, there appear to be no presidents whatsoever in Washington.

Balancing Act
It is painful for any Arab state to be accused of colluding with Israel. But as the war in Gaza has unfolded, Egypt has looked so feeble that it has become the second villain in the crisis.

Oil Economy Link-Up
The difficult economic situation expected to prevail in 2009 will affect the oil sector the most, since the price of oil and global growth are inextricably linked, according to experts.
